House-Building Teams of 15-25 volunteers will each build a house from start to finish in only 4 days. No skills or experience is necessary, so you can do it! Each house-building team will have the opportunity to interact with kids and families in the neighborhood, so this project offers a good combination of gratifying work & relational interaction.
About the Mission:
Casas por Cristo mobilizes nearly 7,000 annual volunteers to serve in Mexico, Guatemala, and now in the Dominican Republic. Through cross-cultural partnerships with local churches and their pastors, volunteer teams are presented with an amazing opportunity to build a home for an impoverished family in need. House-building teams transform an otherwise empty lot into a safe and secure home in just four days--complete with concrete foundation, electricity, windows and doors. Each family receives a tangible symbol of the faithfulness and unconditional love of Jesus Christ. Volunteers gain perspective on the extreme poverty that exists in our world. This is a truly gratifying project, and you don't need any experience to participate.
The team will be staying at a Christian kids' summer camp. The camp includes dormatory-style housing with bunkbeds for separate guys and girls rooms. There are also 16 apartment-style rooms for families to stay together. The facilities include running water, showers, flushing toilets, and electricity. There is an outdoor dining hall, swimming pool, basketball court, soccer and baseball fields.
Beach Day :
At the end of the week, everyone will spend a day at the Gran Ventana Beach Resort in Puerto Plata, where there is a beach, pools, water sports, and more. You’ll be staying one night at this all-inclusive resort. This could be a great option for a short family vacation before returning home. Visit www.granventanahotel.com for more info on this resort.
Mark Stauffer, Local Outreach Minister, will be leading this trip. He has been to the Dominican Republic two times, and has led several previous mission trips.
