Sun-Sat, October 7-13, 2018 (fall break)
Families, small groups, men's groups and women's groups are all invited to serve together for this unique opportunity.
Medical professionals (general, dental and optometry), sports coaches/athletes are needed. No experience or skills needed to help build a house or serve with the outreach projects.
Minimum age: 6 yrs (6-17 yrs to be accompanied by a parent/guardian).
1. House Building-
House-Building Teams of 15-20 volunteers will each build a house from start to finish in only 4 days. No skills or experience are necessary, so you can do it! Each house-building team will have the opportunity to interact with kids and families in the neighborhood, so this project offers a good combination of gratifying work & relational interaction.
2. sports camp-
Our host camp offers a baseball field, soccer field, volleyball court and basketball court where we can instruct kids and play games, as well as teach Biblical values. If you are a coach or athlete and like to instruct kids we'd love for you to help lead this sports outreach to kids.
3. Girls' outreach-
"Princesas" (Princesses) is our outreach to girls, daughters of the King--beautifully and wonderfully made in the image of God. If you're crafty, like to sing, paint fingernails, tell Bible stories or play games, you can have an impact on the lives of young girls as they learn about God's love.
4. Medical / dental/ eye clinics-
Doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists and other medical professionals are needed to provide much needed care for locals who do not have access to good health care. We may set up day clinics in local churches as well as at the camp where we are hosted.
About the Mission:
Casas por Cristo mobilizes nearly 7,000 annual volunteers to serve in Mexico, Guatemala, and now in the Dominican Republic. Through cross-cultural partnerships with local churches and their pastors, volunteer teams are presented with an amazing opportunity to build a home for an impoverished family in need. While CpC specializes in building homes, volunteers can serve in other capacities such as medical or sports outreach.
House-building teams transform an otherwise empty lot into a safe and secure home in just four days--complete with concrete foundation, electricity, windows and doors. Each family receives a tangible symbol of the faithfulness and unconditional love of Jesus Christ. Volunteers gain perspective on the extreme poverty that exists in our world. This is a truly gratifying project, and you don't need any experience to participate.
The team will be staying at a Christian kids' summer camp. The camp includes dormatory-style housing with bunkbeds in separate guys and girls rooms. There are also 16 apartment-style rooms for families to stay together. The facilities include running water, showers, flushing toilets, and electricity. There is an outdoor dining hall, swimming pool, basketball court, soccer and baseball fields.
Beach Day :
At the end of the week, everyone will spend a day and one night at the Gran Ventana Beach Resort in Puerto Plata, where there is a beach, pools, water sports, and more. This is a great way to relax and process your experience before returning home. Visit www.granventanahotel.com for more info on this resort.
