RelationSHIFT: June 23

This week’s readings are based on the “Provide Reality” sermon from the RelationSHIFT series. This season, we want to focus on getting the proper perspective about God and others in order to improve our relationships. Slow down, read the text, and then let it read you.

Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. … When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”
Genesis 4:9-10, 12 (NIV)

After Cain murdered his brother, God asked Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” Since God already knew the answer, it is believed that God was giving Cain a chance to confess his sin. Cain chose not to confess and, consequently, felt the full punishment of God’s justice. There are consequences for our sin. What can you confess to God today?
