“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16, NIV, 2011).
They say John 3:16 is the most well-known verse in the Bible. But like all things overly familiar, it can lose its impact. A worship song by Darlene Zschech expresses the startling truth of this verse differently: “Jesus the Son of God, the darling of heaven crucified.” That word “darling” makes some people uncomfortable; I find it helpful. It gives us insight into just how much we mean to Him. We know the worth of something by the price tag. Our price tag has “Jesus” written on it, and God paid it with His darling Son. When we experience that precious heart of God for ourselves and others, we can’t help but share it. So today we pray, God, let me experience your heart of love for ______.
