Unsung Heroes: August 1

This week’s readings are based on the Unsung Heroes sermon series. This season, we are looking at some of the lesser-known heroes of the faith, seeing the big impact they had, and understanding how we can learn from their example. Slow down, read the text, and then let it read you.

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Luke 10:27 (NIV)

This famous passage of Scripture was the answer to a question asked of Jesus: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” The next question asked of Jesus was a bit more curious: “And who is my neighbor?” If loving our neighbor is an important part of inheriting eternal life, then knowing who our neighbor is is an important thing to know. Let’s ask God to help us identify who our neighbor is.

God, You are sovereign and You know all. You’ve given us a prescription to inherit eternal life. Illuminate to us who we are to help, to whom we are to witness, who we are to love well; who our neighbor is. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen!
