This week’s readings are based on the Unsung Heroes sermon series. This season, we are looking at some of the lesser-known heroes of the faith, seeing the big impact they had, and understanding how we can learn from their example. Slow down, read the text, and then let it read you.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank.
Daniel found favor with the king and was hand-selected to be trained for the king’s service. Consequently, Daniel was given the best of what the king had to offer, including food and wine described as the “king’s delicacies.” Some of these foods were considered unclean by Daniel, so he stood by the courage of his convictions and petitioned the king for a strict diet of only vegetables and water. Is there an area of your life in which you need to live by the courage of your convictions and take a stand? Ask God to help you do just that!
