PULLING WEEDS: “Comparison”

This week Jason Petty our Next Gen Pastor dealt with one of the “weeds” that grow in our lives without much awareness; comparison.  Here’s the LINK to the sermon.

There’s no win in comparison.

This was one of the points from the sermon and boy is it true!  We often compare with others to feel in control or one up people, but that never satisfies our souls.

Jason challenged us to “Celebrate others and Celebrate Jesus” who has redeemed us, as the way God pulls the weeds of comparison out of our hearts.

We were never made to compare ourselves to creation.

Roman 3:22-25 reminds us of who we are in Christ:

This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood — to be received by faith.

Live free in Christ and freely celebrate others.

I’ve already been tempted to compare my life (everyone in my house got sick this weekend but me) to those who are posting their awesome destinations over break.  Might need to listen to the sermon 2-3 times!

Often, we find out on spring break or vacation how much our souls needed the rest and our relationships need our presence.  During this break make time to go back through and practice some of the ROOTED disciples we learned a few weeks ago.

  1. Take 60 minute to read, pray & reflect in solitude.

  1. Reflect back over the Stronghold section and see if are areas that need to be addressed in your life.

I’ve found that the best time to address what needs to change in my life and when my next vacation needs to be, is while on vacation.  This is the time to talk about what summer needs to look like for your soul & let God lead you.

Don’t try to compare yourself to someone else’s vacation schedule, lake house or boat. Jesus says He is with us the whole of every moment and HE is enough.

This week, lets make room to remember there’s no win in comparison.  Then find a fresh way to celebrate someone else, because that’s exactly what Christ did for us.

Bless you,
